Kiran Rao - Aamir Khan

Kiran Rao
Short Bio
Unlike all the other individuals mentioned on our list, Kiran Rao's role is more behind the camera than in front of it. She started her career as an assistant director on various television commercials and in the year 2000, she moved into the feature film space as an assistant director for Aamir Khan's Productions' first presentation - 'Lagaan'. Fortuitous? Absolutely! And in more ways than one! Little did she know that not only was she associating herself with what would go on to be an Oscar nominated film, she was also about to meet the love of her life and the man she was going to marry - heartthrob, brilliant actor and superstar Aamir Khan.
In December 2005, Kiran and Aamir got married in a private ceremony in Panchagani in Maharashtra. Six months later, they also celebrated with a reception in Bangalore, from where Kiran's family hails.
Today, the couple enjoys being married to each other, as well as working side by side on in-house productions such as 'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na'. Kiran will soon be seen directing Aamir in her first directorial venture, 'Dhobi Ghaat'. Wife telling husband exactly how to behave? Sounds about right!
Aamir Khan
Short Bio
Technically Aamir Khan started his career as a child actor in his uncle's 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat', but it was only when he burst into our lives strumming the guitar and singing "Papa kehte hain" in 1988's 'Qayamat se Qayamat Tak' that the nation developed a collective crush on him.
More than 20 years later, the crush has now solidified into a solid love affair, accented by respect and awe and today Aamir is considered one of the finest actors our cinema has produced.
Early on it was clear that Aamir's romantic streak spread beyond just his films. As a young lad he fell in love with his neighbour Reena Dutta and married her soon after turning 21, much against the wishes of both their families. The marriage produced two children and lasted 16 years, ending in divorce, in 2002. The intensely private Khan refused to divulge any details of his personal life, although that did not stop the media from speculating. These speculations were heightened by the shocking claim that British writer Jessica Hines had produced a love child called Jaan Harry Hines with Aamir in 2003. As always he remained tight lipped about the whole controversy and it gradually died down.
However, the rumour mills were not going to stay silent for long when it came to a handsome and unattached star like Aamir and soon after, reports of his romance with a young assistant director began to surface. This time though, he did more than just confirm the dalliance; he went ahead and got married to his lady love - Kiran Rao - in 2005.
Aamir and Kiran had met on the sets of his magnum opus 'Lagaan' and a little mental math will reveal that Aamir was technically still married to Reena at the time (She was one of the producers of the film actually). Exactly when the affair began and what his marital status was at the time still remains a little murky, but all that is in the past now!
Selected Filmography: Kiran Rao (2000-2009)
2001: 'Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India': Enters the film world as an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker, also meets her future husband, the star of the film Aamir Khan. The film goes on to get nominated for an Academy Award.
2001: 'Monsoon Wedding': Plays second assistant director to Mira Nair's lively take on Indian weddings.
2004: 'Swades: We, the People': Teams up again with Ashutosh Gowariker in this tale about an NRI, played by Shahrukh Khan, returning home.
2007: 'Taare Zameen Par': Is the associate producer on Aamir Khan's home production and directorial debut about a dyslexic child.
2008: 'Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na': Delivers another hit as associate producer on Abbas Tyrewala's tale of young love, starring Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan and the bubbly Genelia D'Souza.
Famous Duets
Like many other filmy couples, Aamir and Kiran also fell in love while working together. The story-mein-twist though was the fact that Aamir was the mammoth star of the film, while Kiran was just an assistant director.
2001: 'Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India': A momentous film, for many reasons: Aamir Khan's first production, Kiran's first feature film assignment, a nomination for the best foreign film at the Oscars and the beginning of a love story.
2007: 'Taare Zameen Par': Aamir's directorial debut had wife Kiran playing the role of assistant producer.
Love Speak
"My working with Aamir was pretty accidental. I am not from a filmy family. A friend of mine who was working with Aamir's 'Lagaan' asked me if I would like to work as part of the team, and I agreed. Prior to that, I must have watched, like, ten Hindi movies in my life. I didn't know much about Hindi films at all. And one of the films she did know about was 'Rangeela'. QSQT was the first complete Hindi film I ever watched, as a young adult. I must have been about 14 then. I'll never forget that because, it was the first movie I watched on our new VCR." Kiran Rao on her serendipitous association with Lagaan and Aamir.
'So Kiran and I are away from home, in one very quiet spot, just lying in and resting. Reading, going for walks, watching films,' Aamir Khan on his blog, talking about the couple spending some away time shortly after Kiran tragically miscarried their first child.

Kareen first time talking about Saif - Sahid!

MAIN apni favourite hoon . The line from Jab We Met , some say, describes Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor the best. Almost 10 years after she started with J. P. Dutta's Refugee , the divalicious beauty from Bollywood's first family declares to Koel: " Even today whichever film is made in the industry is offered to me first." As she gets snug on Koel's red couch, the actress gets candid about all the accolades and accusations that come with the territory for a superstar, talks about her childhood love ( movies), and the love of her life ( Saif Ali Khan).
Explaining her position in an industry where heroines hardly have a screen life beyond seven or eight years, Kapoor believes if an actress has more than just a pretty face and smile to depend on, she will get roles post 30. " If you can act and prove yourself, roles will come your way," she says with certainty.
That movies come to her without her having to do much doesn't mean she has always had it easy.
" I have made some good choices, some bad ones. But that's how I have learnt." About her Diwali release, the third installment of the super- hit Golmaal series, she says: " This time I signed the film only after Rohit ( Shetty, the producer) showed a script where I had a more significant role than in the previous one." Speaking about working in an industry that's male- dominated, Kareena says the one rule that has always helped her push her career forward is to give importance to directors. " I work with directors, not actors; who the actor is is just incidental," she says. But she does agree that a lot of money rides on the four Khans. About working with her ex- boyfriend Shahid Kapoor, she says candidly: " I'd love to work with him because our on- screen chemistry is great. But I think people don't approach us anymore because they find it awkward to bring up the topic." A topic that's banned around Saif and Kareena is ' Saifeena' — the brand that has a huge market value. " We both have strong individual identities, and we avoid as much of this topic as possible," she says. But what she doesn't have a problem about is discussing how good looking her beau is.
On being asked whether she prefers Saif clean- shaven or with a stubble, she says, " What's to choose? He is just an incredibly good- looking guy." A good- looking guy who's also quite devoted to his lady love. He proved that when he tattooed Kareena's name on his hand in the early days of their courtship. " That sort of sealed our relationship," says Kapoor. " It took us from one level to another." Koel, who had also interviewed Saif Ali Khan last year, writes in her blog: " Some time last year, Saif had sat on the couch and to cut a long boring story short, had taken offence to my questions about his marriage and children.
I respect his feelings or for that matter, anyone who deigns to sit on my couch, and would've happily retracted my line of questions had he so much as said: ' I'm not comfortable talking about this' or a ' no comment' or even asked me to cut ( after all, we weren't going live). But he answered all my queries extensively and happily ( or so it seemed at the time) and then a few hours later decided he was upset with my tone. I wish he would've just said so and we could have rectified the situation then and there. Instead it turned into a full- scale drama between his PR machinery and mine." Five minutes into her conversation with the " rosy Kapoor", Koel continues: " she made me so comfortable and easy that I felt I could ask her anything and I did." She adds: "[ Kareena is] so clear on who she is and how she wants the world to see her. It's like she has nothing to hide or is hiding it so well that it's irrelevant to the outside world. It's hard not to like her — she has transformed into this calm yogi exuding childlike energy. With her weight it seems she's shed her ego."

Bollywood stars are usually useless sons and nephews

"Bollywood stars are usually useless sons and nephews"
Mumbai Film Festival continues to throw up lively debates. Taking a jibe at the way Bollywood works, perennially smiling adman Prahlad Kakkar had the audience in splits when he said the
Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan with wife/actre...Image via Wikipediaindustry is a mom and pop shop.
"Why use a good actor when you can have a nephew? And if you have to create stars anyway, why not from the family? It is hence very difficult for men to become stars. But since Bollywood does not want their women to be in films, females have a better chance of becoming stars or starlets. Men stars are usually useless nephews and sons," he said at a forum.
Taking an open shot at the young Bachchan scion, Kakkar said, "Abhishek Bachchan has 17 flops in a row and is still going strong. He is unique and should be in the Guinness Book of Records," much to uproarious laughter from the gathering.
The fest is on till Thursday.
Along with Kakkar, veteran actor Pavan Malhotra became the darling of the audience with his frank views when he told the media, "You print my story continuously for a year
Kareena’s Role Being Fleshed Out In Agent Vino...Image by hungama28 via Flickrand see where I go. I will become a star too."
The obvious point of discussion was whether it is the media that made stars or that media merely covered those that had become stars.
At the receiving end were media women Indu Mirani and Archita Kashyap, who defended their profession with uncharacteristic openness.
Mirani said, "We do not make star, we only follow 'A' listers."
The third media person on the dais, critic Mayank Shekhar, wittily avoided being dragged into the discussion, stating repeatedly that he was 'merely a moderator' though he is a member of the Fourth Estate.
However, when the discussion about paid news came up, Mayank refused to let the two media women go lightly and grilled them, with some very frank comments not just from the two, but also from media persons in the audience.
Director Anusha Rizvi repeated that it was the strength of her film 'Peepli Live' that worked with the audience and not the involvement of Bollywood star Aamir Khan. This was also the view shared by Kashyap and Mirani, though not of the rest of the gathering.
Peruvian filmmaker Daniel Vega had the audience in giggles. He said he was dumbfounded about the Indian star system because in Peru they only made five films a year.

Anil Kapoor will be seen as Indian Playboy in Mission: Impossible 4

There's something phenomenal about this man called Anil Kapoor. Else, how would you explain the fact that even at the age when he is supposed to be playing father's roles to heroines, he is one of the most sought after actor (read 'hero') in Bollywood...

Well, the histrionics of the global phenomenon (he can be called so, courtesy Slumdog Millionaire) doesn't end there. Not too long ago we had reported that Anil was approached for a prominent role in the hit action series Mission: Impossible for its fourth installment.

Though at that time, details of his role were a bit sketchy and with no confirmation from the studio or the actor's end, it was rumoured that he would play either the villain or a major supporting role. However, now it is learnt that his role in MI4 will feature him playing the role of an Indian playboy called Brij Nath, who is armed with international connections in high places al la the original Playboy Huge Hefner! News is also afloat that Anil, who will be having some steamy scenes with Paula Patton, will be shooting for the film from next month in Dubai.

On the 'desi' front, market is abuzz with the rumor that Anil will be seen in a negative character in Priyadarshan's forthcoming thriller flick Tezz. Well, this man's 'roll' does not end there, for rumor also has it that Anil might also star in Vikramaditya Motwane's next which it to be produced by Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap.
